Opinions / Forums: (certainly not authorize anything)

SOI: SOI should be played by IBM, AMD, Moto, ... the traditional players; they know the tricks, pros and cons, and even know how to make use of the 'cons', both for design and process. May not be suitable for Intel and TSMC and other fabless-based partners. Bottom line, following other people partially may be dangerous and a risk of being in trap, and hardly catch up with them. Should walk your own road.

Strained silicon: Intel seems take the lead now (2004). Yet IBM's family (AMD, Motorola, UMC) is not new to either. Both have the chance to run into it. Fablesses may not dive into the risk of new technologies; besides, they have their new things to play ... , they may not exploit the technology.

Designs: multi-foundry model, hard to meet your customer's need and timeline by just count on one provider, for negotiable too.

Product ideas are one key parameter, far from be exploited than the process and technology. Product ideas then go to design then software to run the hardware, many markets  there. But, outsourcing is certainly a concern since this may not involve deep people.
